There are no negatives, just opportunities…

OK, so this doesn’t have anything to do with breast cancer. It is not, however, irrelevant. Far from it.

This morning, we had one of the most inspiring people I have ever seen on “Good Morning! Arizona.”

Dan Caro

His name is Dan Caro and when he was just 2 years old, he was badly burned in a gas-fume explosion. He suffered third-degree burns over most of his body. Doctors didn’t think he’d survive more than a few days. But he proved them wrong.

In addition to leaving him disfigured, the fire also robbed him of his entire right hand and most of his left.

Despite being told it was impossible, Dan has achieved his life-long dream of becoming a musician, a professional drummer. He uses his left thumb to grip one drum stick; the other drum stick he attaches to his right wrist with a wrist band and rubber bands.

Dan has written a book about his experience called “The Gift of Fire: How I Made Adversity Work for Me,” and in it he says, “The biggest lesson life would eventually teach me is that there really are no negatives — that every experience is simply an opportunity ….”

His attitude is incredible and infectious.

Dan is truly an amazing person, not unlike the women we know who battle breast cancer. They look adversity in the face and say, “You can’t have me.” They focus on the positive and they refuse to accept limits, just like Dan. They are forces of nature.

I encourage you to watch the clip. It’s 4 minutes well spent. If Dan doesn’t inspire you — at least a tiny bit — then I don’t know…

    Whew.

    Man.

What’s my excuse for not doing more, eh?

    Thanks, Cat.
