OK, so I’ve been a bit off my blogging game since my vacation, but I’m back in the saddle now and re-settling into my regularly scheduled life — working, walking, blogging and all.
So, as you know, I spent a few days with my sis in SoCal. She sent me home with some goodies, which is pretty usual when I visit, especially if I drove and don’t have to worry about packing space. More on those goodies (one of which you’ll love) in the next couple of days, but I wanted start with a book she loaned me, and yes, she made it abundantly clear it’s a loan.
It’s called “Katharine Hepburn Once Said … Great Lines to Live By.” Are they ever!
It’s not the kind of book you necessarily read cover to cover. When my sis first showed it to me, I opened to a random page — 23.
“I remember walking as a child. It was not customary to say you were fatigued. It was customary to complete the goal of the expedition.”
Well if that’s not appropriate, I don’t know what is.
This particular expedition we’re all on — the Komen 3-Day for the Cure — has a number of goals. There’s walking 60 miles in three days. There’s fundraising. There’s the big kahuna goal of finding a cure for breast cancer.
The important thing to remember is that this is a journey and there’s a big picture. Online Ambassador Kristen talks about that journey in this eloquent post. Small goals, little victories — making it to the first pit stop, a donation (be it $10, $110 or $1,010) — are what will get us where we want to go.
With the “goal of the expediation” firmly in mind, I think I’ll be channeling the incomparable Kate when I go to the Arizona Training Kickoff this weekend. No fatigue here! (OK, well there might be a little fatigue, but I won’t give in to it.)
The first Kickoff event is Saturday in Chandler (New Balance Chandler, 2860 W. Chandler Boulevard); the second is Sunday in Scottsdale (New Balance Scottsdale, 16211 N. Scottsdale Road #2). I’ll be at the Scottsdale event, and if all goes as planned, 3TV‘s Brittney Shipp will be there, too, broadcasting live for “Good Morning! Arizona – Sunday.” (For those of you not from Arizona, that’s the Sunday edition of the state’s most popular morning show, which I actually produced many moons ago.)
I’m so excited to meet some of my fellow Arizona walkers … and maybe check out some shoes since mine broke.
Never mind the pre-training I’ve been doing, I think this weekend’s official Training Kickoff will make my 3-Day adventure seem more real than ever.
See you at New Balance! I’ll be the one in pink. Oh, wait… (Old joke, I know, but I couldn’t resist. I’ll try harder next time.)
P.S. On a woohoo-for-me note, I crossed the $1,000 mark in my fundraising earlier this week and I’m closing in on the halfway point! A HUGE thank you to everyone who has contributed on my behalf. And to those of you who haven’t yet, I’m waiting…

Yay! Congrats on the fundraising milestone!
Thank you! I’ve now hit the halfway mark going into the 24-week countdown. Woohoo!
